Universität der Künste Berlin

Universität der Künste (UdK) Berlin is one of the largest and most diversified and universities of the arts in the world.

The teaching offered at the four colleges of Fine Art, Design, Music and Performing Arts as well as at the Central Institute for Continued Education/Berlin Career College as well as the inter-University centres for Dance (HZT) and Jazz (JIB) encompasses the full spectrum of the arts and related academic studies in more than 70 courses. With the right to confer doctorates and post-doctoral qualifications, the Berlin University of the Arts is also one of the few art colleges in Germany with full university status. Teachers in art and music are also educated at Berlin University of the Arts, the only university in Berlin where these subjects can be studied.

UdK Berlin is a research-intensive arts university with its own artistic and academic profile in individual and collaborative research. The unique combination and diversity of artistic and academic subjects leads to a specific research and qualification environment of artistic practice and research, basic research and application-orientation. Research at the University of the Arts generates its own, constantly evolving culture of inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration. It is possible to work for a doctorate in any subject area at the individual colleges where the university can provide appropriately qualified supervision by academic staff. The prerequisite for doing a doctorate is a degree in a scientific or artistic-scientific study program.
