International Max Planck Research School for Gravity at the Extreme

Natural SciencesPhysical sciences

The IMPRS is located at the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute), the largest research institute in the world specializing in general relativity and beyond. The IMPRS covers all research areas of the institute, reaching as widely as technology development for gravitational-wave detectors, astrophysical sources of gravitational waves and investigations into quantum gravity. It comprises the two locations of the MPI for Gravitational Physics in Potsdam and Hannover together with its university partners the Leibniz University Hannover, the Humboldt University Berlin, and the University of Potsdam.

Focus

The IMPRS curriculum ensures a high-quality and comprehensive graduate education. In addition to regular university courses, special courses focusing on the school’s chosen research are given by staff members and long-term visitors as semester or block courses. The courses are tailored to the current research, technology, and methods relevant to the doctoral work.

Key words: gravitational waves, general relativity, quantum gravity
