The Helmholtz Graduate School for Macromolecular Bioscience is a collaboration between the Institute of Biomaterial Science (Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht) in Teltow, Universität Potsdam and Freie Universität Berlin, funded by the Helmholtz Association. The Graduate School offers outstanding interdisciplinary training for doctoral candidates with a background in natural and biomaterial sciences as well as in engineering. The Graduate School is also member of the doctoral program Molecular Science of Dahlem Research School.

The doctoral program comprises fundamental and application-oriented research with a strong focus on the entire chain of development of macromolecular and biomaterial science. Research topics include:
