CRC / TRR 227 Ultrafast Spin Dynamics

Natural SciencesPhysical sciences

The DFG-funded Collaborative Research Center / Transregio 227 of Freie Universität Berlin and Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg together with non-university institutions Fritz-Haber-Institut, Helmhotz-Zentrum Berlin, Max-Born-Institut and Max-Planck-Institut für Mikrostrukturphysik has just started in January 2018. The CRC/TRR 227 includes an integrated research training group (iRTG) that provides doctoral candidates a structured program for scientific and interdisciplinary training. The topics are closely tied to the CRC's scientific focus.

Focus

The research focus is to establish a fundamental understanding of ultrafast spin dynamics, thereby laying the foundations for spin-based information technology that can be operated at THz clock rates. This comprises cutting-edge experiments in ultrafast spectroscopy and multiscale theoretical modeling of spin dynamics.

Applicants require a MSc degree in Physics or a related area. Financial support is provided by CRC. Candidates are offered courses on transferable skills in collaboration with the Dahlem Research School Berlin (DRS; Doctoral Program "Natural Sciences") and the International Graduate Academy Halle (InGrA).
