Berlin School of Economics
The Berlin School of Economics (BSE) unites Berlin‘s career development programs in economics, accounting, finance and management at the PhD and Postdoc levels in a single and unique structure. Within the BSE, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Freie Universität Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, University of Potsdam, ESMT Berlin, Hertie School and the Berlin Social Science Center are pooling their efforts in the education of young researchers in economics.
The BSE PhD Program provides outstanding doctoral students with a vibrant, highly interconnected research community and a training structure that develops their talents in a unique combination of high-level academic and applied research. During the course phase of three semesters, students deepen their knowledge of economic theory, applied economics, business studies, econometrics, and economic policy. During the three-years research phase, students write their doctoral theses while having the opportunity to apply their knowledge in the BSE's professional research environment. The BSE PhD Program has four PhD tracks: Accounting, Economics, Finance and Management. They share a similar structure and allow for numerous specializations.
The BSE Research Associates Program for postdocs and assistant professors in economics recruits its members from the international job market for new PhD graduates. The program provides its members with academic mentoring and offers multiple support structures for research activities, travel, and skill development.
The BSE rests on the long-running efforts of a highly collaborative work environment of Berlin's economic research institutions. Both BSE programs are connected to all major research activities of the participating institutions.
BSE graduates are excellently prepared for positions in academia but also at policy-related institutions and organizations, which is documented by a list of outstanding placements.
