Two of the main focus areas of Technische Universität Berlin are data science and integrated mathematical modeling, simulation, and optimization. To support this line of research, BIMoS was founded in 2014 as a highly interdisciplinary graduate school at TU Berlin and focuses on data science and data-based modeling and simulation, with applications ranging from life sciences over information technology to engineering. BIMoS provides an internationally highly recognized and vivid research environment within this research area with supervision by an interdisciplinary team and a rich lecture program.

Focus

The research focus of BIMoS is on the development of methodologies based on mathematical models to solve problems of diverse application areas such as engineering. A particular emphasis will be on the following range of topics:

  • Data Science
  • Data based modeling and simulation

BIMoS offers 6 PhD fellowships for outstanding students holding a master’s degree. The ideal applicant has experience in the general research area of BIMoS and enjoys working in an interdisciplinary environment.

Each PhD student will be supervised by a professor from TU Berlin, who is working in the general focus area of BIMoS. To ensure high quality of the supervision process, a supervision agreement will be signed by both parties. In addition, each PhD student can choose a mentor, who provides individual guidance not only concerning academic development, but also for general career advise. Due to the interdisciplinary character of BIMoS and to broaden the scientific horizon even further, this mentor will come from a different research area.
