Parasite Infections: From Experimental Models to Natural Systems
The DFG Research Training Group „Parasite Infections: From Experimental Models to Natural Systems“ offers a cutting edge curriculum to educate Next Generation Parasitologists. Graduates are trained in molecular approaches, cellular interactions and organismic studies on key parasites of model organisms, free-ranging animals and humans. Crossdisciplinary educational experiences and the intrinsic interdisciplinary nature of parasitology provide innovative research projects. The research training group is a member of the doctoral program Biomedical Sciences of Dahlem Research School.
Focus
The PhD program offers research projects on
- One Health aspects of Parasite Infections
- Mechanisms of infection and persistence
- Protective and regulatory immune responses
- mpact on wildlife populations and a
- complementary curriculum including a field training course in the Serengeti Wildlife Research Centre (Tanzania).
Graduates are encouraged to actively participate in the scientific community by presenting their ongoing research in international and RTG specific meetings. Participating in science outreach activities will help the students to establish critical links for scientific exchange and for their future careers.
Involved universities and institutes are the Freie Universität Berlin, the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and the Charité–Universitätsmedizin Berlin as well as the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology, the Max Planck Institute for Colloids and Interfaces, the Leibniz Institute for Zoo & Wildlife Research, the Robert Koch Institute and the Institute for Bee Research.
